Jeremy Stephens, Gilbert Melendez, Rafael dos Anjos and Henry Cejudo each picked up $50,000 bonus checks for their standout performances at UFC 215 over the weekend. Stephens and Melendez were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors, while dos Anjos and Cejudo earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses.
Stephens and Melendez opened up the main card on pay-per-view in a featherweight matchup that saw Melendez return to the 145-pound division for the first time in over a decade. It didn’t go well for the former Strikeforce lightweight champ as Stephens pummeled him for three full rounds to earn scores of 30-26, 30-26 and 30-25 on the judges’ scorecards.
Dos Anjos looked incredible in his second fight at welterweight against No. 6 ranked Neil Magny and showed he is a real title contender at 170-pounds. The former lightweight champ needed less than a round to put Magny on the ground and secure a fight-ending arm-triangle choke submission in the night’s co-main event.
Cejudo put himself right back in flyweight title contention with a crushing performance against No. 5 ranked Wilson Reis. A 2008 Olympic gold-medalist wrestler, Cejudo looked all the part of a striking expert and picked Reis apart on the feet with a crisp well-rounded arsenal. A big right hand followed by ground-and-pound from Cejudo was enough to put Reis away just 25-seconds into round 2.
