SHOOTO – 04/23/2017: TUF Finalist Ogikubo confirmed to fight in Shooto

Yutaka Saito, Ryo Okada, Hiromasa Ogikubo, Caol Uno

Although he was the one of two finalists TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) season 24, Hiromasa Ogikubo didn’t get a contract offer from the UFC.

But at the last weekend’s Shooto event Ogikubo sounded like he still hasn’t given up hope of getting that UFC contract though.

Ogikubo entered the cage and told the fans, “I think I would be able to fight a very good foreign fighter so I want to finish this guy and show how strong Shooto champion is.”

He was talking about being Shooto’s champ but in the upcoming Maihama Amphi Theater event in April, Ogikubo is taking on a fighter from outside Japan in a non-title bout.

This has to be because he is thinking UFC.

At this point of his career, in order for Ogikubo to impress UFC, it would be better for him to fight someone good and tough from outside Japan than taking on other Japanese flyweights.

Ogikubo’s pro MMA record still stands 15-3-2 because those two-rounders at TUF is not counted as official MMA bouts. And this means, on paper, Ogikubo is currently on a 5-fight win streak.
