SHOOTO – 01/28/2018: Maeda Out Due To Back Injury and Shimizu Steps into Take on Saruta

Kiyotaka Shimizu (left)

Yoshiro Maeda is out due to the back injury and Kiyotaka Shimizu will replace him to take on Yosuke Saruta.

Saruta vs Maeda was one of the biggest fights in this event because the current Shooto strawweight champ moved up to the flyweight to gun for another title. And, Maeda is former DEEP and Pancrase champion so the fans were really looking forward to see this fight.

In that sense this was a devastating news for Shooto but Shimizu, who trains with Maeda when he comes to Tokyo, basically stood up to solve this problem.

Shimizu was a former Pancrase flyweight champ and he defended this title six times so he is probably the best replacement Shooto could find at this point.

The following is the comment from Shimizu on the press release by Shooto:

“I broke my fist in October and had to pull out of my fight in Shooto so I wanted to pay back to Shooto. Also, Saruta defeated me at D-NET via decision so I wanted to fight him again. I am going to knock him out with my left, the fist I broke last year.”
