East Coast fighters take the top slots at Dana White Tuesday Night Contender Series #5. The main event itself is CES MMA vet Michael Rodriguez taking on CFFC vet Jamelle Jones while ROC champion Julio Arce fights Columbia, Maryland’s Peter Petties. DWTNCS 5 takes place August 8th at the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas, NV with a webcast at UFC Fight Pass.
7-4 Jamelle Jones started his career in CFFC and had his last battle in that cage where he lost to Anton Bezrin for the light heavyweight title in May. 7-4 Jones was also on TUF Season 23 where he lost to Myron Dennis while his biggest fight to date was arguably his loss to Raymond Sloan at Bellator 121 in June 2014. 8-2 Michael Rodriguez has spent the last year-and-a-half in CES MMA where he went 6-2 with three wins in a row. Most recently Rodriguez defeated Alec Hooben in May.
In the co-main event ROC featherweight champion Julio Arce finally gets his big break as he takes on Peter Petties. Arce’s only losses in his 12-2 career were at bantamweight against Brian Kelleher in Arce’s fourth defense of that belt and the rematch. Arce then went up to featherweight to fight once in CFFC before returning to ROC to take the featherweight belt against Frank Buenafuente, defend it in a rematch, ten defeat Tim Dooling for his second defense. Petties is less experienced at 5-2 as a pro but he has fought for larger organizations Titan FC and Victory FC, both of which are webcast at UFC Fight Pass. After a loss to Caio Rocha in TFC Petties defeated Rodney Jordan in Shogun Fights, lost to Mike Plazola in Victory FC, and most recently defeated Jonathan Pearce in Shogun.
Not all the fighters are from the East Coast. Kevin Gray for instance came up through LFC and RFA with his last two fights in VFC while his opponent Alex Perez is out of TPF and most recently fought in New Jersey-based CFFC but it was CFFC’s San Diego show. Donovan Frelow is 2-2 in WSOF and fights out of Las Vegas while his opponent Ricky Simon is a Titan FC vet out of Vancouver, WA. Shelton Graves however is on a four-win streak with the last two being in ROC while Everett Smith out of Louisiana last fought in Fight Time Promotions.
