A welterweight bout between Patrick Cote (23-10) and Thiago Alves (21-11) has been reportedly set for UFC 210. News of the matchup was announced on Friday.
UFC 210 will be held April 8 from KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Daniel Cormier will defend his light heavyweight title in a rematch against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in the main event.
Cote was on a three-fight winning streak prior to a TKO loss to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 89 last June. Leading up to the fight the 36-year-old Canadian had beaten Joe Riggs via decision in April 2015, and scored TKO wins over Josh Burkman in Aug. 2015 and Ben Saunders in Jan. 2016. Currently on his fifth stint in the UFC, Cote has gone 6-3 since making his latest return in July 2012. Cote fought Anderson Silva for the middleweight title in 2008 but was stopped in the third round.
Alves is also looking for a rebound after suffering a TKO loss to Carlos Condit in May 2015 and a decision loss to Jim Miller this past November. Prior to that the 33-year-old American Top Team product had a decision win over Seth Baczynski in April 2014 and a TKO win over Jordan Mein in Jan. 2015. At one time Alves had put together a seven-fight winning streak that earned him a shot at Georges St-Pierre’s welterweight title at UFC 100. He went the distance with the champ but lost the decision on the judges’ scorecards.
