Patricio Freire to defend against Daniel Weichel at Bellator 188

Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire will defend his Bellator featherweight title against Daniel Weichel. The promotion has officially announced the bout as the main event of Bellator 188, which takes place Nov. 16 at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv, Israel.

During his first run with the featherweight title, Freire successfully defended the belt over Weichel. In the co-main event of Bellator 138, “Pitbull” finished the fight via knockout 32 seconds into the second round. The Brazilian went on to drop the title to Straus in his next bout. However, in his last fight, Freire choked out Straus at Bellator 178 to reclaim the title. During his Bellator career, he has also defeated the likes of Pat Curran, Diego Nunes and Wilson Reis.

Since falling against Freire, Weichel has gone on a four-fight winning streak. During the stretch, he has defeated Georgi Karakhanyan, Emmanuel Sanchez, Brian Moore and John Teixeira. Outside of his loss against “Pitbull,” Weichel has gone undefeated since 2012.

In the co-main event of Bellator 188, middleweight contenders John Salter and Anatoly Tokov will face off.
