PANCRASE 286 – 04/23/2017: Kume vs Blazicevic is The Headliner

The lightweight bout between Takasuke Kume and Matija Blazicevic is going to be the headliner of Pancrase 286.

Kume is the current Pancrase lightweight champion yet this one is going to be a non-title bout.

Perhaps, one of the reasons for this is, its a part of three on three, Pancrase vs TEAM Cikatic.

Yes, its sort of like a mini team competition between Pancrase and fighters from Croatian selected by the K-1 legend Branko “The Croatian Tiger” Cikatic.

However, virtually no one is talking about this team competition.

The one of the major reasons would have to be, the fans have already seen so many of these mini team competitions since Masakazu Sakai took over the ownership of Pancrase.

Its nice to see fighters from different countries but at the same time, for fans and fighters, these team competitions don’t have next steps and stories to follow. For example, in this case, its not like the winner is going to Croatia to fight, and its not like Pancrase is sending three fighters to Croatia to do the same thing. What are they fighting for?

And most importantly, its not like the same team would come back with better set of fighters next year.

Its always an one-shot thing so very difficult to be interested in these teams and fighters as well.

On top of this, Cikatic really never had any contact with Pancrase during his active days.

He was the inaugural K-1 World Grand Prix champion that also fought in PRIDE.

For some Pancrase fans, this team competition in Pancrase 286 probably brings a feeling of strangeness.
