One Championship announces first title defense for Eduard Folayang

One lightweight champion Eduard Folayang

One Championship has announced that lightweight champion Eduard Folayang will defend his title for the first time against Ev Ting. The bout will headline a card entitled “King of Destiny,” which is set to take place April 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

Folayang won the title with a third-round knockout over former champion Shinya Aoki. The Filipino fighter is currently riding a three-fight winning streak that also includes wins over Adrian Pang and Tetsuya Yamada. Folayang has been competing for One since 2011 and has also picked up victories over A Sol Kwon, Felipe Enomoto and Kotetsu Boku.

Ting has not lost since falling to Marat Gafurov in 2015. In his last bout, he won his fourth-straight fight when he took a split decision over UFC veteran Kamal Shalorus. Ting turned professional in 2011 and has built a 13-3 record as a professional.

This lightweight title bout will serve as the main event of the upcoming event. The card will also feature a bantamweight contest between One regulars Kevin Belingon and Toni Tauru.
