Olympian Dan Kelly to debut in Australia
Multiple media sources have reported that three-time Olympic judoka Daniel Kelly has signed with the UFC. The Australian will make his official UFC debut against Luke Zachrich on the undercard of UFC Fight Night UFC Fight Night 55, which takes place Nov. 8 at the Allphones Arena in Sydney.
Kelly was eliminated in the first round of “The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia” by Sheldon Westcott. However, in non-exhibition bouts, Kelly holds an undefeated 7-0 record. Six of his seven victories have come via stoppage. Last May, he scored a second round submission over Ben Kelleher at Australian Fighting Championship 9.
The judoka represented his country in four-straight Olympic games, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. His best showing was a seventh place finish in the under 90 kg division in 2004. Domestically, Kelly has claimed nine Australian championships.
Zachrich is also a TUF veteran. He went 0-1 on the seventh season of the reality show. Despite not winning the show, Zachrich finally earned a shot in the UFC earlier this year. He dropped his debut to Caio Magalhaes, but he returned to score a decision over Guilherme Vasconcelos at UFC 175.
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 55, TUF winner Michael Bisping will take on former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold in what has quickly become a grudge match.
