A welterweight matchup between Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira (17-4-1) and Yancy “The Kid” Medeiros (14-4) has been added to December’s UFC 218 card. News of the bout was announced this week.
UFC 218 will be held Dec. 2 from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Max Holloway will defend his featherweight title against former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar in the main event.
Oliveira is currently riding a four-fight winning streak aside from a No Contest against Tim Means last December after taking several illegal knees to the head while grounded. “Cowboy” most recently earned “Performance of the Night” honors for his knockout of Ryan LaFlare at UFC on Fox 25 in July. And he submitted Means in a rematch at UFC Fight Night 106 in March.
Oliveira also posted wins over Will Brooks and James Moontasri in the latter half of 2016. The 29-year-old Brazilian is now 7-2 inside the octagon and has finished 11 of his 18 career wins via knockout and four by submission.
Medeiros has won both his fights since making his welterweight debut last year. “The Kid” earned “Performance of the Night” for his submission win over Sean Spencer at UFC 203 last September. And this past June he stopped Erick Silva via TKO at UFC 212.
Medeiros also holds octagon wins over John Makdessi, Joe Proctor and Damon Jackson at lightweight. The 30-year-old Hawaiian is now 5-4 in the UFC and has finished seven of his 14 wins by knockout and four by submission.
