MMA’s most intriguing fighter Nick Newell makes his Legacy Fighting Alliance debut as he takes on Sonny Luque.  LFA 35 takes place March 9th at the Arena Theatre in Houston, TX with a main card broadcast on AXS TV.

“Born with a congenital amputation on his left arm” means Nick Newell’s arm ends just below the elbow in a hard stump.  This hasn’t stopped Newell from racking up a MMA record of 13-1 with a stretch in WSOF of 4-1.  Newell was undefeated when he faced then-champion and now UFC vet Justin Gaethje for the WSOF title in July 2014, a fight he lost by KO in the second round.  Since then Newell defeated Joe Condon and Tommy Marcellino in WSOF with the Marcellino fight being in October 2015, the downside to Nick being he hasn’t fought in almost two-and-a-half years.  Sonny Luque enters this bout 10-6 with his most recent fight being a loss to Jose Flores in February 2017.  Luque so far is best known for his sole Bellator fight, a loss to Luis Vega in March 2012.

In the co-main event 6-2 Jared Vanderaa faces 4-3 Vernon Lewis.  Vanderaa was last seen in LFA losing to Richard Odoms for the heavyweight title at LFA 15 last June.  Since then Vanderaa defeated Idrees West then lost to Andrew van Zyl in regional promotions.  Lewis hasn’t fought since October 2014 when he lost to Cody East for the then-vacant heavyweight title in Legacy FC, the progenitor of LFA.
