Nick Newell to get next shot at Justin Gaethje’s title

Former XFC champion Nick NewellDuring the broadcast of last weekend’s World Series of Fighting 8 card, WSOF officials announced that Nick Newell will get the next shot at new champion Justin Gaethje.

At WSOF 8, Gaethje defeated Richard Patishnock for the inaugural WSOF lightweight title. During his run in the fledgeling promotion, the Arizona native had previously defeated Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, Brian Cobb and Dan Lauzon to put himself into title position.

Newell was born with a condition called congenital amputation and thus has no left hand. However, he has still built an impressive MMA career. He is currently 11-0. In 2012, he defeated Bellator MMA veteran Eric Reynolds for the XFC championship. Newell then signed with WSOF and has picked up back-to-back victories over Keon Caldwell and Sabah Fadai.

WSOF will host their next event on March 29. WSOF 9 will take place in Las Vegas. In addition to Gaethje, WSOF also boasts champions in the welterweight division, Steve Carl, and featherweight, Georgi Karakhanyan.
