Fighters Only magazine has reported that UFC veteran Neil Grove is a possibleopponent for Josh Barnett at Dream 13. The report claims that nothing isofficial, but cites a source that says Grove’s camp is hopeful the fight can bemade. In the last few days multiple media outlets have reported that bothAntonio Silva and Tim Sylvia were contacted to face Barnett but ultimatelydecided against taking the fight. Dream 13 takes place on March 22 at theYokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
Grove earned a shot in the UFC after going 7-1 on the European circuit. In hispromotional debut at UFC 95 he lost by submission to IFL veteran MikeCiesnolevicz. Since then Grove has returned from an injury and defeated MartinThompson by first round TKO this past October. He holds notable victories overPatrick Berry, James Thompson and James McSweeney.
Barnett was headed towards the biggest fight of his career in late 2009.However, his match with WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko was cancelled whenBarnett failed a prefight drug screening. He was subsequently suspended fromcompetition by the California State Athletic Commission. Since the suspensionhe has appeared sporadically in the media due to his participation inprofessional wrestling matches and grappling tournaments. He holds victoriesover three former UFC champions: Dan Severn, Randy Couture and Antonio RodrigoNogueira.
Currently headlining Dream 13 is a featherweight title fight between championBibiano Fernandes and former lightweight champion Joachim Hansen. Anotherattraction is a lightweight fight featuring former Elite XC champion KJ Noonsagainst Andre “Dida” Amade.
