HDNet’s next live broadcast will be MFC 22 “Payoff” which takes place Friday,October 2nd at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta,Canada. Compared to previous MFC cardsthis one is a step up in names as a whopping eight UFC vets join well-knownAntonio McKee and Carlo Prater on the card. The broadcast begins at 10 PM ET.
In the main event Antonio McKee defends for the first time the lightweighttitle he won by defeating UFC vet Derrick Noble in February. McKee’s style is very control-oriented whichdoesn’t always please the fans but he hasn’t lost a fight in over six yearssince Karo Parisyan won a unanimous decision against McKee back in February2003. McKee’s opponent WEC vet CarloPrater has been a “gate keeper” for years, traveling around a who’s who ofshows including AFC, UWC, Euphoria MFC, and HDNet’s original show Art ofWar. Post-WEC Prater has a win overDominique Robinson in PFC in May.
In a co-main event UFC vets Travis Lutter and Jason MacDonald clash in bothfighters’ first fight since leaving the UFC. Both fighters are known for their ground games with Lutter thought tohave an edge while MacDonald is usually thought of more for his striking thanLutter. MacDonald being the Canadianfighter will have the crowd on his side in a fight arguably more interestingthan the title fight in the main event.
UFC vets Luigi Fioravanti and John Alessio also take to the cage with Luigipost-UFC having a win against Fabricio Nascimento in June and Alessio post-WECbeing 3-2, most recently defeating Andrew Buckland in MFC 21. This could be viewed as a battle of gyms asLuigi fights out of American Top Team and Alessio out of Xtreme Couture.
In yet another UFC vet vs. UFC vet fight David Heath returns to MFC to faceMike Nickels. Post-UFC Heath has gone4-2, most recently defeating Wayne Cole in August while post-UFC Nickels is 2-0in ROF.
The card isn’t all about UFC vets but those who face non-vets still have goodopponents. UFC vet Marvin Eastman’s lastfight in MFC was a victory over Aron Lofton back in June however he is comingoff a loss to Pride vet Ricardo Arona in September. Now Eastman faces Ryan Jimmo, a MFC vet whohasn’t lost in ten fights.
The final UFC vet this night is Pete Spratt who this night faces undefeatedNathan Gunn.
Even the bottom-of-the-card fight looks interesting as AFC vet Thiago Goncalvesfaces Bellator vet Nathan Gunn.
