The fall season kicks in September 16th with UFC Fight Night 19 at 8 PM onSpike followed by the premier episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Season10.  FN 16 takes place at the CoxConvention Center in Oklahoma City, OK, the first UFC in OK since UFC 4.

In the main event TUF Season 5 winner Nate Diaz takes on Season 2’s Melvin Guillard.  At first glance with Diaz coming offback-to-back losses to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson one could wonder why he isin the main event but in both those losses as well as his fight against JoshNeer Nate earned “Fight of the Night” bonuses. Counting his “bus stop” in Rage in the Cage in March ’08 Guillard is ona three-win streak with his two UFC wins being Dennis Siver and Gleison Tibau.

Also from previous TUF seasons Nate Quarry from the original series returns toface season 7’s Tim Credeur, season 5’s Gray Maynard faces former titlechallenger Roger Huerta, season 7’s CB Dollaway faces rookie Jay Silva, andPhillipe Nover from season 8 fights former TKO champion Sam Stout.

One of the most surprising matches on the main card is former WEC championCarlos Condit vs. UFC rookie Jake Ellenberger. Ellenberger is known to the hardcore fans for his fights in Bellator,Bodog, and IF and he was even part of the M-1 Challenge ’08 Team USA for twofights.  Now riding a four-win streaklook for Ellenberger to waste no time catching up for lost opportunities.  Condit is coming off a loss in his UFC debutbut as stated in several updates in the archives Condit is no stranger to thebig stage’s pressures having worn the WEC belt from ’07-’09 when that weightclass was eliminated.

In addition to Ellenberger three other fighters make their UFC debuts and justlike Ellenberger facing a former WEC champion all have a tough night ahead ofthem.  Former SportFight champion and WECvet Mike Pierce faces top WEC welterweight Brock Larson, Bodog vet SteveSteinbeiss whose debut earlier was postponed faces Ryan Jensen, and 5-1 JaySilva faces CB Dollaway.

One of the most intriguing undercard fights is Chris Wilson vs. Mike Pyle.  Both these fighters trained with Team Questbefore Pyle followed Randy Couture to Vegas and Wilson moved to Brazil.  In the archives are multiple updates withboth fighters as they moved around key shows like Affliction (Pyle) and Bodog(Wilson).  Now these two reunite for whatis bound to be an emotional fight as Wilson being 1-2 in the UFC is thought ofas “must win to stay” while Pyle having lost his UFC debut as a latereplacement is more the next generation.

Another sign the fall season is really kicking in is UFC 103 takes place justthree nights later in Dallas.  More onthat card later.
