With so many powerhouse teams around the Globe sometimes it is hard to create space for you as a "new" team but GFTeam is not new, it came about from the vision and dedication of their leader Professor Julio Cesar Pereira who took a setback in the past as inspiration and force to create a new team even more in his image than the previous one (in association with Universidade Gama Filho). With the success of now Superstar Rodolfo Vieira, who for the last few years has won just about every major BJJ title on the planet, BJJ fans and practitioners began to notice Rodolfo's team: the GF Team. This quiet group is now one of the leaders in BJJ competition and more and making big noise not only in the competition arena but elsewhere as well. Professor Julio Cesar not only contributes his dedication to his team but he is also one of the top referees int eh World always present in every major competition. So we set out to find out more about it and who better to tell us than their leader Professor Julio Cesar Pereira

KP- How did the GFTeam como about?

JCP- In 1996, Professors Pedro Gama and Paulo Jardim, took notice of my performance during an event at the Universidade Gama Filho and they requested me to teach classes at the UGF (Universidade Gama Filho). That was the first time that Jiu-Jisu became a part of a University with such a tremendous tradition in sports. There, we conquered many titles and graduated the greatest number of Jiu-Jitsu professionals with a degree in Physical Education. We made a big difference in our sport.

We were there for 10 years, during which we graduated many champions and many instructors due to our affiliation with the University. In 2004, with the passing of Professor Pedro Gama, we began to encounter many problems with our relationship with the University, especially the lack of support from them so in 2008 we left UGF and created the GFTEAM with the main base in Meier/RJ

KP- Where is the team currently based?

JCP- We are located at Rua Arquias Cordeiro, 478 - Méier / Rio Tel. 3497 04 78 Site: www.gfteam.com.br

KP- Does the team have any affiliates in Brazil?

JCP- We have 60 affiliates in Brazil with Academies in Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Salvador, Sergipe, Espirito Santo, Paraiba and Ceara

KP- And outside Brazil where do you have affiliated academies?

JCP- We have affiliates in the USA in California, Texas, Boston, Ohio and Connecticut, we also have affiliates in Australia, Chile, England (London) and Germany

KP- Who are the main people at GFTeam?

JCP- All our instructors are equally important in our view, they all contribute greatly to the totality of the GFTeam group

KP- You have some phenomenal athletes can you note some of them for us?

JCP- They are all above the average in my view, I have to shine the main light on Rodolfo Vieira for his high level of performance and development, but we also have several that are shinning in tournaments doing that while also doing their studies and work loads, these are: Marcos Bello, Alexandre Barauna, Theodoro Canal, Artur Cesar (Gogo), Denilson Pimenta, Alvaro Bobadilla, Sergio Henrique, Vinicius Pedrosa, Bruno Alves, Marcio (tubarão), Huanderson Pavão, Igor Santos, Marcio Maia, Vinicius Marinho, Ricardo Evangelista, Ze Carlos, Vancler de Oliveira, Marcos Vinicius, Alberto Ramos,Gabriel Rainho, Vitor Henrique, Jake Makenze, João Alfredo, Vanessa Oliveira, Igor Silva, Renato Fraga, Rafael Soares (bebezão), Glauco Barbosa, Nadia Mello, Richardo Flood, Bruno Granola, Wagner Oliveira, Renato Castro, Emerson Martins, Evandro Nascimento,Italo Lins and many others, too many really to name all

KP- But great athletes are also created and helped along by their masters, what do you believe is the big difference that GFTeam adds to them?

JCP- We strive to create good citizens, the podium results in competition are a consequence of our overall work and also the dedication and desire of each individual athlete

KP- Rodolfo Vieira is without a doubt the BJJ athlete of the past few years, last year I nominated him the best in BJJ for 2011! What does he do that is special and makes him shine and win so much?

JCP- His secret is the dedication and determination that he demonstrates in all of his training and preparation. Additionally his humility, his respect for his opponents and the referees are very important. He is always treating everyone in the spirit of sportsmanship, and in my opinion he is an example for all to follow in BJJ and in other amateur sports
