Bellator’s sixth season got off to an explosive start with the opening round ofthe featherweight tournament and a featherweight title fight.  BFC 60 took place March 9th at the Venue atthe Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN with a main card televised on MTV 2.

Joe Warren has always been less well-rounded than most top featherweights buthis excelling at wrestling usually made up for it.  One could argue that Joe Soto defeatedhimself by being overconfident defending his title against Warren while MarcusGalvao had Warren in trouble with submission attempts several times and AlexisVila just KO’d Warren, the point being Warren in his last three fights has hadsome difficulty.  In this fight PatCurran seemed to take the best aspects of Soto, Galvao, and Vila as he almosteffortlessly stopped Warren’s takedowns while scoring with knees andpunches.  It was a knee in the thirdround that seemed to stun Warren followed by an onslaught against the cage thatfinally knocked Warren out leaving Curran the new featherweight champion.

The two UFC vet fights following the main card were rather uninspiring asTravis Wiuff ground out a decision over Anthony Gomez while Sean McCorklefinished Richard White so quickly and effortlessly it seemed almostquestionable if it was anything more than a “familiarize the fans with thefighter” matchup in the first place.

Next up the middleweights take to the cage in Bossier City this weekend at BFC61.  Look for more on that show in thedays to come.
