Moraes now faces Bollinger in five-round non-title catchweight bout at WSOF 13

Marlon Moraes

Marlon MoraesWorld Series of Fighting 13 is unusual now that Josh Hill is out of the fight against defending bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes.  The main event now features Moraes vs. Cody Bollinger in a five-round non-title fight at a catchweight of 140 pounds.  WSOF 13 takes place September 13th at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, PA with a live broadcast on NBCSN.

13-4 Moraes stumbled a little in 2011 with two losses in a row but since then has been on fire, racking up seven wins in a row in XFC and WSOF.  Moraes won the bantamweight title by defeating Josh Rettinghouse by unanimous decision, an all-out war that cemented Moraes as one of the top three WSOF finds.   16-2 Cody BollingerBollinger is a respectable replacement on short notice, his only official loss in four years or ten fights was to Shahbulat Shamhalaev in the opening round of Bellator’s Season 7 tournament which Shamhalaev ended up winning.  Bollinger made the cut for TUF season 18 but was expelled after missing weight in the fight against Anthony Guttierez in the elimination round while so far this year he has defeated Tyson Nam and Pablo Alfonso in WSOF.

Ozzy DugulubgovIn the co-main event Ozzy Dugulubgov faces Keon Caldwell in a battle of regional standouts.  5-2 Dugulubgov is coming off a loss to Jonathan Nunez by split decision, a fight that broke Dugulubgov’s four-win streak.  9-2 Caldwell was making a name for himself in the Georgia area but was off from July 2011 until August 2013 when he lost to Nick Newell by guillotine choke in Caldwell’s WSOF debut last August, still Caldwell’s most recent MMA fight.

Isaiah ChapmanThe rest of the card has been criticized for lacking star power but several notable up-and-comers appear on this card including Isaiah Chapman and Frankie Perez.  8-1 Perez takes on 7-2 Tom Marcellino, especially interesting considering Perez trains out of Ricardo Almeida’s gym while Tom Marcellino is a Renzo Gracie fighterFrankie Perez who has previously trained with Perez.  6-1 Chapman is making the move to the big stage after going 6-1 in NAAFS while his opponent 7-1 Timur Valiev is on a seven-fight win streak.
