A featherweight matchup between Gray Maynard (12-6-1, 1 NC) and Teruto Ishihara (9-3-2) has been added to The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale. The promotion announced the news on Wednesday.
The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale will be held July 7 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The welterweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption will take place on the card.
Maynard made a successful featherweight debut in July 2016 with a unanimous decision win over Fernando Bruno at the TUF 23 Finale. He returned to action this past December at the TUF 24 Finale but dropped a decision to Ryan Hall. Maynard is a TUF 5 semifinalist and has been competing inside the octagon since 2007. The 37-year-old Xtreme Couture veteran won eight straight fights inside the octagon before fighting to a draw against Frankie Edgar for the lightweight title in January 2011. The two rematched in October 2011 but Maynard was stopped in the fourth round. Since then “The Bully” has only won two of his last seven outings.
Ishihara fought to a Draw against Mizuto Hirota at the finals of the Road to UFC: Japan tournament in September 2015. Both competitors received a contract with the organization at that time and Ishihara peeled off consecutive knockout victories over Julian Erosa and Horacio Gutierrez in his next two fights. “Yashabo” last competed in November 2016 when he dropped a decision to Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night 99. The 25-year-old Team Alpha Male product has finished eight of his nine career wins via knockout.
