MMAFighting has reported that former World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes has signed with the UFC and will make his promotional debut against Raphael Assuncao. The bout will be part of UFC 212, which takes place June 3 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Moraes is currently riding a 13-fight winning streak that dates back to 2011. He signed with WSOF in 2012 and won his first four fights before earning a shot at the promotion’s inaugural bantamweight title. Moraes then defeated Josh Rettinghouse of the belt. He then defended the belt five times before leaving the promotion in January. During his career, Moraes has scored victories over the likes of Josh Hill, Cody Bollinger, Carson Beebe, Tyson Nam and former WEC champion Miguel Torres.
After losing for the first time since 2011, Assuncao got back on track with a victory over rising prospect Aljamain Sterling at UFC on Fox 23. In his previous outing, he dropped a decision against former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw. During his run in the UFC, Assuncao had previously defeated Dillashaw as well as Bryan Caraway, Mike Easton and Issei Tamura.
In the main event of UFC 212, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will face off against interim champion Max Holloway to united the titles. Also on the card, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be in action.
