Liam McGeary to face Linton Vassell at Bellator 179

Former Bellator champion Liam McGeary

Following his main event victory over Brett McDermott, Bellator announced the next bout for former champion Liam McGeary. He will face fellow Brit Linton Vassell at Bellator 179, which takes place May 19 at the SSE Arena in London.

Last Saturday, McGeary returned for the first time since dropping his light heavyweight title to Phil Davis last November. In the main event of Bellator 173, McGeary scored a second-round stoppage over Brett McDermott. Prior to falling to Davis, McGeary had been undefeated. He holds signature victories over former Bellator champion Emanuel Newton and former UFC champion Tito Ortiz.

Vassell has been fighting exclusively for Bellator since joining the promotion in 2013. During his run in the company, he has gone 6-2. In 2014, he challenged Newton for the Bellator light heavyweight title but fell via fifth-round submission. Two years later, he avenged that defeat with a decision victory over Newton at Bellator 149. In his last outing, Vassell took another decision over UFC veteran Francis Carmont on the main card of Bellator 165.

In the main event of Bellator 179, Rory MacDonald will make his Bellator debut against veteran striker Paul Daley.
