In an incredible performance, Roger Gracie submitted current and 5 times World Absolute champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida with a choke from the back in the Gracie Pro 2017. The duel was a match of titans with 20 World titles between them, Roger having 7 weight and 3 absolute tiles and “Buchecha” with 5 weight and 5 absolute (and current champion).
The 15 minute match in IBJJF rules started with both fighters studying the stand up game for over 5 minutes with “Buchecha’ attempting single leg takedowns but Roger defending well. Then just past the 5 minute Roger pulled guard and Buchecha tried to counter with a knee through but Roger having trapped Marcus legs continued relentless attempt to sweep. Buchecha went into a scramble and Roger quickly took the back and secured the choke. Marcus tried to defend but Roger’s precision was too much forcing the champion to submit
After the match Roger announced his retirement from Jiu-Jitsu.
