Junior Assuncao vs. Daniel Swain tapped for XFC 27 main event
Fresh off the heels of XFC 26 this past weekend in Nashville, Xtreme Fighting Championships has confirmed their main event for XFC 27 taking place Friday, Dec. 13, in Muskegon, Mich., and airing LIVE on AXStv.
Headlining the card will be a featherweight match-up between UFC vet and former XFC lightweight champion Junior Assuncao (14-5) and newly-signed 22-year-old Daniel Swain (10-2).
Originally from Brazil, now training out of Ascension MMA in Athens, Ga., the 32-year-old Assuncao has been fighting professionally since 2004. He has had two separate stints in the UFC where he went 2-3; taking home wins over David Lee in 2007, and most recently, Eddie Yagin in 2011. Assuncao dropped bouts to Kurt Pellegrino, Nate Diaz and Ross Pearson inside the Octagon.
Assuncao last fought in September when he scored a fourth round kimura submission victory over Guilherme Faria de Souza at Premium Fight Championship 2.
Swain will have his hands full against the more experienced Assuncao. "Agent Orange" is a Pancrase and MFC veteran and is currently riding a four-fight win streak, most recently defeating Tomonari Kanomata via second round TKO at Pancrase 248 in Japan. Swain is a wrestling standout who hails from Spokane, Wash., and trains out of Trevor Prangley's American Kickboxing Academy.
XFC 27 will also feature a featherweight championship co-main event as champion Farkhad Sharipov defends his title against Deivision "The Dragon" Ribeiro.
