Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks will continue his middleweight campaign against Tim Boetsch. The UFC officially announced the bout and added it to UFC Fight Night 112, which takes place June 25 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
After missing weight for back-to-back bouts, Hendricks moved up to middleweight for the first time last month. In his debut at 185 pounds, he scored a decision victory over former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard. Hendricks defeated Robbie Lawler for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 171 in 2014. However, he then lost the belt back to Lawler in their immediate rematch at UFC 181. Since losing the belt, the former Oklahoma State wrestler has gone just 2-4 in the Octagon.
Last year, Boetsch built some momentum as he won back-to-back fights for the first time since 2012. However, earlier this year that momentum came to a halt as he lost via first-round submission against former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Boetsch has been competing in the UFC since 2008 and has picked up signature victories over Kendall Grove, C.B. Dollaway, Yushin Okami and Lombard.
The UFC has not announced the main event of UFC Fight Night 112 at this time.
