Jacare vs. The Barbarian at UFC 208
A middleweight scrap sure to get the crowd on their feet between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (23-4) and Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch (20-10) has been added to February’s UFC 208 card in New York. The bout was first reported on Friday.
UFC 208 will be held Feb. 11 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The inaugural women’s featherweight championship will serve as main event as Holly Holm takes on Germaine de Randamie.
Souza is coming off a first-round TKO win over Vitor Belfort at UFC 198 last May. He had a rematch against Luke Rockhold scratched in November after Rockhold suffered an injury and Souza has been campaigning for a fight ever since. After arriving in the UFC in 2013, the former Strikeforce middleweight champ posted consecutive stoppage wins over Chris Camozzi (twice), Yushin Okami, Francis Carmont and Gegard Mousasi before dropping a split decision to Yoel Romero in Dec. 2015. “Jacare” is currently ranked No. 3 in the UFC’s middleweight division and boasts 16 career wins via submission.
After a trio of losses, Boetsch got back on track in July with a second round TKO over Josh Samman at UFC Fight Night 91. “The Barbarian” picked up his second straight knockout win with a first round stoppage of Rafael Natal at UFC 205 in November. Boetsch is currently on his second stint in the UFC and holds an overall record of 11-9 inside the Octagon. The 35-year-old Maine native has 10 career finishes via knockout and five wins via submission on his resume.
