Heavyweights Daniel Omielanczuk (19-7-1) and Curtis Blaydes (8-1) are set to square off at UFC 213. Blaydes posted news of the matchup on social media following a report out of the Netherlands.
UFC 213 will be held July 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A Bantamweight title fight headlines the card as Cody Garbrandt defends his belt against former champ, former teammate and opposing coach on TUF 25, TJ Dillashaw.
Omielanczuk had been on a three-fight streak with wins over Chris De La Rocha, Jarjis Danho and Oleksiy Oliynyk before getting submitted by Stefan Struve at UFC 204 in October of last year. “The Polish Bear” most recently fought just last month when he dropped a close split decision to Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night 107 in London. The 34-year-old Sokolow Podlaski native has finished nine of his 19 career wins via submission and three via knockout. Omielanczuk has gone 4-4 inside the octagon since debuting with the promotion in 2013.
Blaydes is a 26-year-old heavyweight fighting out of Chicago. Seven of his eight wins have been by knockout, including his October 2016 second-round stoppage of Cody East at UFC Fight Night 96, a bout that earned Blaydes “Performance of the Night” honors. “Razor” most recently fought in February when he had a TKO win over Adam Milstead at UFC Fight Night 104 overturned because he tested positive for marijuana. Blaydes made his octagon debut in April 2016 with a TKO (doctor stoppage) loss to Francis Ngannou. He is now 1-1, with 1 No Contest in the organization.
