Former World K-1 Grand Prix champions Mark Hunt (12-10-1, 1 NC) and Alistair Overeem (50-7) will face off at UFC 209 in March the promotion announced this week. UFC 209 will be held March 4 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
A bantamweight matchup between Iuri Alcantara vs. Luke Sanders is also on the bill.
Hunt is coming off a No Contest against Brock Lesnar at UFC 200 in July. Hunt originally lost the bout by decision but it was later overturned after Lesnar tested positive for banned substances. Prior to that Hunt had knocked out former champ Frank Mir in March, as well as Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in Nov. 2015.
Overeem had a four-fight winning streak snapped by a Stipe Miocic KO in September for the heavyweight title. Before that “The Reem” had knocked out former champ Andrei Arlovski in May. Other recent victories include a TKO over former champ Junior dos Santos in Dec. 2015, a decision over Roy Nelson in March 2015, and a KO over Stefan Struve in Dec. 2014.
Hunt will have the opportunity to avenge a 2008 submission loss to Overeem that took place in the final round of the DREAM 5: Lightweight Grand Prix. Overeem tapped Hunt with an americana 1:11 into round number one.
