A featherweight showdown between Hacran “Barnabe” Dias (23-5-1) and Jared “Flash” Gordon (13-1) has been booked for the UFC’s return to Sao Paulo in October. UFC officials recently announced the matchup.
UFC Fight Night 119 will be held Oct. 28 from Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Brazil. A middleweight bout between former light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida and Derek Brunson is expected to headline the card.
Dias is currently on a two-fight skid having dropped a decision to Andre Fili in Oct. 2016 and a decision to Cub Swanson the previous April. Before that the 33-year-old Rio de Janeiro native had put together a pair of quality decision wins over Darren Elkins and Levan Makashvili.
Dias trains out of Nova Uniao and is a BJJ black belt. He is now 3-4 inside the octagon since signing with the promotion in 2013 and has finished three of his 23 career wins via knockout and nine by submission.
Gordon is riding a four-fight winning streak, and despite missing weight, he made a spectacular octagon debut in June when he knocked out Michel Quinones at UFC Fight Night 112. Prior to that the 29-year-old fighter out of Queens, N.Y. had been competing under the Cage Fury Fighting Championships banner and had won their featherweight title in February with a unanimous decision over Bill Algeo.
Gordon trains out of Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in New York and is a BJJ brown belt under John Danaher. “Flash” has finished six of his 13 wins via knockout and two by submission.
