Rizin Fighting Federation has signed a match between ADCC champion Gabi Garcia and Shinobu Kandori. The bout will be part of the promotion’s Dec. 29 show, which takes place at the Saitama Super Arena.
Garcia had an interesting 2017 so far. She fought once for Rizin and once for Shoot Boxing. Both bouts were stopped early and ultimately declared “no contests.” On the grappling mats, she was much more successful. At the 2017 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships, she picked up her third gold medal. In the finals, she defeated Bellator competitor Talita “Treta” Nogueira via submission. Garcia made her professional MMA debut in 2015 and has won her first four fights.
Kandori is a former professional wrestler and currently a member of the Japanese national legislature. She fought MMA five times between 1995 and 2000. During the stretch she went 4-1. Her only loss came against Svetlana Gundarenko, and Kandori avenged that loss three months later. In her last fight, she defeated Yumiko Hotta who lost to Garcia last New Year’s Eve.
Rizin’s Dec. 29 show will feature the quarterfinals of the promotion’s bantamweight tournament headlined by Kyoji Horiguchi taking on Gabriel Oliveira and Ian McCall taking on Manel Kape.
