Freire edges past Henderson at Bellator 183

With a unanimous decision for a lackluster fight Patricky Freire defeated former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson.  Bellator 183 took place September 23rd at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA with an undercard webcast at Spike.com, main card broadcast on Spike TV.

Much of the main event was Patricky Freire using his jab and Benson Henderson using leg kicks to occasionally score while what action took place on the ground was largely minimal.  After three rounds two judges saw it 29-28 for Freire, one 29-28 for Henderson with Freire climbing to 18-8 with his second win in a row, Henderson falling to 24-8 with his second loss in a row.

The co-main event between UFC vets Paul Daley and Lorenz Larkin was much more entertaining.  Daley was measured for the first round while Larkin slowly found his range and switched gears.  In the second round Daley landed a spinning backfist and followed up with a left hook that stunned Larkin, follow-up strikes on the ground sealed the victory.  Daley now stands 40-15-2, Larkin 18-7.

Bellator remain busy in the fall with the next event being October 6th where bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas defends the belt against Darrion Caldwell.  After that Bellator head to the East Coast for Bellator 186 with Gegard Mousasi facing Alexander Shlemenko then Bellator 187 for light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader vs. Linton Vassell.
