Former flyweight champion Kairat Akhmetov returns to One Championship, faces Geje Eustaquio

One Championship’s former flyweight champion Kairat Akhmetov returns to Asia’s biggest promotion as e takes on Geje Eustaquio.  One Championship “Total Victory” takes place September 16th at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia with an iPPV through the promotion’s website.

Kairat Akhmetov was flyweight champion for 625 days from the time he defeated Adriano Moraes in November 2015 until losing a rematch to Moraes in August, the downside being the Kazakhstani fighter had no fights between the Moraes battles leaving his record 20-1 but only one fight in almost two years.  9-1 Geje Eustaquio went 3-1 in the time Akhmetov was inactive with a loss to Toni Tauru to go with victories over Saiful Merican, Gianni Subba, and most recently Anatpong Bunrad.  This is billed as a classic “grappler vs. striker” matchup even though “striker” Eustaquio has two victories by submission.

In the co-main event Stefer Rahardian seeks to keep his undefeated record intact as he takes on Sim Bunsrun.  Four of Rahardian’s victories on his 5-0 record came in One Championship including Jerome S.; Paye and Eugene Toquero this year, both by unanimous decision.  Bunsrun enters this bout 3-3, a questionable record for a co-main event although Bunsrun’s three victories constitute his winning streak.  Bunsrun defeated Khun Sichan and Liu Peng Shuai in One Championship while between those came a win over Veerayuth Priyoporn.
