TUF winner Enrique Barzola will welcome Matt Bessette to the Octagon. A fight between the featherweights has been officially added to UFC 220. The pay-per-view event takes place Jan. 20 at the TD Garden in Boston.
Barzola won the second season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America.” On the reality show, he defeated Jonathan Ortega and Cesar Arzamendia to make the finals. On the finale card, he defeated Horacio Gutierrez via unanimous decision to win the season. Since then, he has gone 2-1 in the UFC with a split decision loss against Kyle Bochniak and back-to-back wins over Chris Avila and Gabriel Benitez.
In his last fight, Bessette fought to a “no contest” against Kurt Holobaugh on Dana White’s Contender Series. Prior to that bout, he had spent his previous four matches under the CES banner where he held the promotion’s featherweight title. From 2012-2016, Bessette fought nine times for Bellator and went 7-2. During his run in the promotion he scored a split-decision win over WEC veteran Diego Nunes.
In the main event of UFC 220, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will put his title on the line against Francis Ngannou. Also on the card, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier defends his title against Volkan Oezdemir.
