A middleweight match between TUF 19 winner Eddie Gordon and TUF 17 veteran Josh Samman has been added to UFC 181, scheduled for Dec. 6 in Las Vegas. UFC 181 is headlined with two title fights, with Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler in the main event, and Anthony Pettis vs. Gilbert Melendez in the co-main.
Newsday.com first reported the Gordon vs. Samman match-up on Tuesday. An official announcement by the UFC should be forthcoming.
Gordon (7-1) is a teammate of UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman. He’s only fought once so far inside the Octagon, when he scored a first round knockout over Dhiego Lima to win The Ultimate Fighter season 19 back in July. The 31-year-old Jamaican worked as a finance director and sales consultant before he began training in MMA after running into his old high school buddy Weidman in a chance encounter.
Like Gordon, Samman (10-2) has also only fought once inside the Octagon so far, scoring a second round TKO over fellow TUF 17 cast member Kevin Casey at the TUF 17 Finale in April 2013. The 26-year-old Floridian was scheduled to face Uriah Hall in Aug. 2013, as well as Caio Magalhaes in April 2014, but was forced out of both bouts due to injuries.
With this latest addition, UFC 181 now includes:
- Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler – for welterweight title
- Anthony Pettis vs. Gilbert Melendez – for lightweight title
- Travis Browne vs. Brendan Schaub
- Corey Anderson vs. Gian Villante
- Todd Duffee vs. Anthony Hamilton
- Eddie Gordon vs. Josh Samman
