Injuries have forced the UFC to shuffle the top of UFC Fight Night 79. Last week, news broke that Jorge Masvidal would move into the main event against Benson Henderson. This left Dong Hyun Kim without an opponent. Over the weekend, the UFC announced that the South Korean fighter would take on Dominic Waters at the event, which takes place Nov. 28 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul.
Kim has been fighting exclusively in the UFC since making his debut in 2008. Last year, he had his four-fight winning streak stopped. He fell to Tyron Woodley via violent first-round knockout. Kim got back on track with a third-round arm-triangle choke submission victory over Josh Burkman at UFC 187. Over the course of his UFC career, Kim has also defeated the likes of John Hathaway, Erick Silva, Nate Diaz and TJ Grant.
Waters made his UFC debut last July at the TUF 21 finale. That night, he fell to George Sullivan. The defeat stopped a three-fight winning streak that included a victory under the World Series of Fighting banner. Waters holds a 9-3 professional record and fights out of Jackson Winkeljohn MMA.
Masvidal and Henderson will face off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 79. Henderson was originally set to face Thiago Alves before an injury forced a change. The promotion was also forced to drop the schedule co-main event featuring Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Anthony Hamilton after “Cro Cop” retired from the sport.
