28-year old Kota Shimoishi (right) defeated UFC / Bellator veteran Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida (left) in April of this year. He maybe a win away from getting a title shot against DEEP 155 lbs champ Satoru KitaokaOn Saturday, August 29th, at Differ Ariake, DEEP is going to promote two MMA shows.

The afternoon is the DEEP CAGE IMPACT 2015 followed by DEEP JEWELS that kicks off at 6:30 pm.

In DEEP CAGE IMPACT, the featherweight champion Kazunori Yokota will take on Keijiro Takahashi in a non-title bout, former flyweight champion Tatsumitsu Wada is taking on Jae Hyun So from Korea. In addition, PRIDE / DREAM veteran Masakazu Imanari will face Katsuyoshi Beppu. Three of the top fighters under DEEP contract will be in action.

However these three fights are not exactly the most competitive match-ups.

These fights are, more like, champion and former champions making an appearance kinda fights. Sure, its an opportunity for Takahashi, So, and Beppu but most fans are expecting Yokota, Wada and Imanari to go home with W.

In that sense, the lightweight match-up between Kota Shimoishi and Shigetoshi Iwase can be considered as same but depends on how you see it, this fight can be also interesting.

On paper, Iwase is 14-17-4, 40 years old, while Shimoishi is 14-3-0, and 28 years old. In addition, Shimoishi is on a four-fight win streak and just coming out of a big win over UFC / Bellator veteran Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida. Sounds like he should be the next one to challenge Satoru Kitaoka for the DEEP lightweight title. Especially if he wins this fight in an impressive manner.

But that is not exactly the case because in DEEP CAGE IMPACT held last month, Yasuaki Kishimoto defeated Naoto Miyazaki with Fight of the Night performance. Miyazaki was 12-3-3 walking into this fight but Kishimoto dominated him. Kishimoto is 31 year old, and now, on a three-fight win streak. On paper he also seem qualified to challenge Kitaoka for the title.

How Shimoishi would do in this fight probably will determine who gets the right to challenge Kitaoka. However, at the same time, Kitaoka is scheduled to defend his other title, King of Pancrase, before end of this year. Kitaoka is going to be 36-year old next year so who knows what is he going to do even if he keeps winning.

What would happen with DEEP lightweight title next year? is something what the fans can wonder while watching this Shimoishi taking on Iwase. And that's why this fight can be more interesting than the top three fight cards on the bill.
