DEEP 74 – 12/20/2015: Ochi at 115 lbs, Inoue’s Opponent Changed to Shimabukuro

A 31-year old Haruo Ochi is going down to 115 lbs division for the first time in his carerHaruo Ochi is going down to 115 lbs division for the first time in his career and will take on Joo Ho Son from Korea in DEEP 74.

Ochi has wins over top guys like PRIDE vet Masakazu Imanari, King of Pancrase Kiyotaka Shimizu, and former Shooto champ Yuta Nezu, however, he is only 5'3". Always fought with disadvantage in terms of height and reach so this is a smart decision. Especially for a fighter like Ochi who is 31-year old and has a mediocre pro MMA record of 11-6-2. Its not like he has a high chance of getting a call from UFC anyways. It would be better off fighting at a proper weight class so he can improve his record and maybe go for a title. DEEP is starting men's strawweight division from next year. Both Pancrase and Shooto always had this weight class too.

Ochi's opponent, Son, is 0-3 in pro MMA. Needless to say, this is a fight for Ochi to get a good start at this new weight class.

There is going to be a change in Naoki Inou's opponent. According to DEEP, there was a "misunderstanding in regards to the contract weight", therefore, Inoue is now going to take on Chikara Shimabukuro from team CORE, and Takahiro Okoshi will be fighting Satoshi "Dominator" Yamasu in a bantamweight bout.

Inoue is only 18 years old. 3-0 in pro MMA and he was 1-0 in the amateur bout. Shimabukuro is a 34-year old with pro record of 10-11-4. If Inoue wins this fight its going to be a slid statement to the Japanese MMA world that this kid indeed has a huge potential.
