DEEP 62 – 04/26/2013: Gono Talked About His Comeback to MMA

A 38-year old Akihiro Gono (left) is making a comeback to MMA against Taisuke "Goten" Okuno in DEEP 62.Akihioro Gono held a media work out on Tuesday at DEEP official gym IMPACT in Tokyo.

He is making a come back to MMA on April 26th in DEEP 62.

Gono explained to the reports about why he has decided to make a come back to MMA.

"After I lost in Shoot Boxing last November, Kazuo (Misaki) came and asked, 'So, what are you going to do now?' So, since I had no intention of going back to MMA, I told him that I was thinking about doing boxing fight in overseas, to test myself and for the memory. But he said, 'That's not good enough. Let's go back to the welterweight and do MMA' and triggered me to go back to MMA."

On this day, Gono did couple rounds of sparring, and he did look sharp, and according to Misaki, his sparring partner, "As we trained together, I started to see that there is something of a genius in Gono's technique. Back in the welterweight, Gono used to engage in a close fight against world's bests like Jon Fitch and Dan Hardy, and I would like the fans in Japan to witness Gono's that kind of fights."
