Crowder, Mueller, and Frevola emerge from DWTNCS season finale with UFC contracts
Three fighters won UFC contracts on the season finale of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series with Matt Frevola, Lauren Mueller, and Allen Crowder all picking up the honors. DWTNCS 8 took place August 29th at the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas, NV with a webcast at UFC Fight Pass.
Matt Frevola kept moving forward against Jose Flores despite Flores’ effective lilver kick. Round 1 saw Frevola get the edge on scoring while round 2 saw Frevola emerge from an armbar attempt to take Flores’ back and take top position until the fight-ending arm-triangle choke. Frevola’s record stayed perfect at 6-0, Flores’ first loss left his record 7-1.
Allen Crowder’s strategy of ground-and-pound wore down Don’Tale Mayes in their heavyweight matchup. In round 1 Mayes held his own, round 2 saw Crowder take full mount for strikes, and round 3 was when Crowder finally word down Mayes and scored the TKO. Crowder now stands 7-2, Mayes fell to 3-2.
Lauren Mueller also kept her undefeated record intact with a unanimous decision over Kelly McGill-Velasco, especially impressive considering Mueller had a one-week notice. Mueller connected with several knees to the body from the clinch in round 1 while Velasco tried to keep Mueller at range. Round 2 was closer as Velasco started to find her range while round 3 was more of the same. With the win Mueller remained undefeated at 4-0, Velasco dropped to 2-2.
At this time there is no word on when the second season of DWTNCS will begin or how long it will run.
