Darrion Caldwell’s first defense of the bantamweight belt comes five months after taking it from then-champion Eduardo Dantas by unanimous decision.  Caldwell enters this bout 11-1, 8-1 in Bellator with his only loss being to Joe Taimanglo in July 2016, a loss Caldwell avenged in his next fight by unanimous decision that set up the Dantas bout.  Caldwell also holds a win over Joe Warren who was bantamweight champion from the time he defeated Dantas in October 2014 until March 2015 when he lost the belt to Marcos Galvao.  While Caldwell is known for his superior wrestling Leandro Higo is best known for his striking.  18-3 Higo defeated now-UFC vet Steven Peterson for the LFA belt in January 2017 then went 1-1 in Bellator with a loss to Dantas followed by a win over Taimanglo.

The co-main event between Warren and Taimanglo seems another wrestler vs. striker matchup although both are more well-rounded.  15-6 Warren lost to  Caldwell, defeated Sirwan Kakai, lost to Dantas, and most recently defeated Steve Garcia.  23-8-1 Taimanglo had a four-fight win streak going including a guillotine choke of Darrion Caldwell from September 2014 through July 2016 then lost to Caldwell in a rematch and most recently lost to Higo.
