Bellator MMA has announced that Bubba McDaniel will fill in for the injured Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal against former light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary. The bout will be part of Bellator 185, which takes place Oct. 20 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
McDaniel last fought for Bellator in 2015. At Bellator 146, he scored a second-round knockout over Ken Jackson. Since then, he has picked up back-to-back wins over Andre Kavanaugh and Juan Torres on local shows. After a stint on the 17th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2013, McDaniel went 1-2 in the UFC with a victory over Gilbert Smith.
McGeary earned a light heavyweight title shot in 2015 after beginning his Bellator career with six-straight wins. At Bellator 134, he defeated Emanuel Newton to claim the title. McGeary then successfully defended the belt with a first-round submission over former UFC champion Tito Ortiz. In his second title defense, McGeary dropped a decision and the title to Phil Davis. Since losing the belt, the British fighter has split a pair of bouts with a win over Brett McDermott at Bellator 173 and a loss coming against Linton Vassell at Bellator 179.
In the main event of Bellator 185, former Strikeforce and Dream champion Gegard Mousasi will make his promotional debut against former Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko.
