Three titles are on the line at World Series of Fighting 35 as Blagoy Ivanov makes the third defense of the heavyweight title against Shawn Jordan, Lance Palmer the first defense of the featherweight belt against Andre Harrison, and by no means least Bekbulat Magomedov and Donavon Frelow battle for the vacant bantamweight title. WSOF 35 takes place March 18th at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY with an undercard webcast at WSOF.com, main card broadcast on the NBCSN.
The only loss in Blagoy Ivanov’s 14-1 career was to former Bellator champion Alexander Volkov in the finals of Bellator’s Season 10. Ivanov moved over to WSOF where his first fight won him the heavyweight title, a guillotine choke of Smealinho Rama in June 2015. Since then Ivanov defended the belt against Derrick Mehmen and Josh Copeland with the Copeland fight being at WSOF 31 last June. Shawn Jordan enters this bout 19-7, 6-4 in the UFC. Jordan’s Octagon career came to an end when his three-fight win streak was halted by Ruslan Magomedov by unanimous decision at UFC 192 in October 2015. Since then Jordan picked up a TKO over Ashley Gooch at WSOF 33 in October.
Lance Palmer’s defense of the featherweight title is technically his first defense but this is his second run as champion. Palmer first won the title with a rear-naked choke of Rick Glenn in December 2014, defended it against Chris Horodecki, then lost it to Alexandre Almeida by unanimous decision in December 2015. At WSOF 32 in July Palmer regained the title with a majority decision over Almeida leaving the champion’s record 11-2. Andre Harrison is no stranger to title fights having been the ROC and Titan FC champion. Harrison made his WSOF debut on New Year’s Eve when he submitted Bruce Boyington by rear-naked choke, a fight that improved Harrison’s record to 15-0.
In early January Marlon Moraes vacated the bantamweight belt, now Bekbulat Magomed and Donavon Frelow fight for the strap. The only loss in 17-1 Magomedov was to Josh Hill at WSOF 26 by split decision, since then Magomedov defeated Jesse Brock by unanimous decision at WSOF 33 in October. Late replacement Frelow holds a record of 6-1 overall, 2-1 in WSOF. In October Frelow lost a unanimous decision to Magomed Bibulatov but bounced back to pick up a split decision over Zeke Enrique in February. At Gladiator Challenge.
