UFC President Dana White has confirmed a reported lightweight match between Benson Henderson and Michael Johnson. The bout will be the main event of finale card for the 21st season of “The Ultimate Fighter” which takes place July 12 near Miami.
With this fight announcement, Henderson will move back to lightweight after a one-fight stint at welterweight. Last February, he defeated Brandon Thatch via fourth-round submission. He had previously dropped back-to-back fights at lightweight to Rafael dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone.
In 2012, Henderson defeated Frankie Edgar to claim the UFC lightweight title. He defended the belt three times over Edgar, Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez before falling to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164.
Johnson is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. In his last fight, he picked up one of his biggest victories to date as he upset Edson Barboza. Over the course of his UFC career, Johnson has picked up wins over Gleison Tibau, Joe Lauzon and Danny Castillo.
The 21st season of “The Ultimate Fighter” will feature teams of fighters from American Top Team and Blackzilians. The finalist in the welterweight tournament will face off at the finale.
