A 170-pound match-up between veterans Ben Saunders (19-6-2 MMA, 7-5 UFC) and Patrick Cote (22-9 MMA, 9-9 UFC) has been added to the UFC Fight Night 81 card scheduled for Jan. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. UFC officials announced the bout on Friday.
Saunders has been on a tear since returning to the UFC last year. He’s won three straight, racking up a submission win over Chris Heatherly, a TKO over Joe Riggs, and most recently, a split decision win over Kenny Robertson. The 32-year-old Florida native made a successful UFC debut in 2007 following a stint on The Ultimate Fighter season 6.
Since making the move to welterweight in 2013 Cote has gone 4-1. He’s currently riding back-to-back victories, having defeated Joe Riggs in April via unanimous decision, and in August Cote stopped Josh Burkman via third round TKO and won the Fight of the Night bonus.
UFC Fight Night 81 is headlined with a Bantamweight Championship bout as TJ Dillashaw defends his title against former champ Dominick Cruz.
With Saunders vs. Cote now on the card, UFC Fight Night 81 includes:
- Champ T.J. Dillashaw vs. Dominick Cruz – for bantamweight title
- Eddie Alvarez vs. Anthony Pettis
- Travis Browne vs. Matt Mitrione
- Tim Boetsch vs. Ed Herman
