Bellator and featherweight prospect Bubba Jenkins have gone their separate ways. Multiple media outlets reported the release, which has since been confirmed by the fighter on Twitter.
Jenkins signed with Bellator in 2013. He went 8-3 in the promotion. During his run, he has picked up victories over the likes of Poppies Martinez, Jordan Parsons and Goiti Yamauchi. In his last fight, he lost for the second time to former World Series of Fighting champion Georgi Karakhanyan.
After an extensive wrestling career at both Arizona State and Penn State, Jenkins was widely considered to be a blue chip prospect. He began his career with three wins in a row before signing with Bellator.
“People people this is not a sad day,” Jenkins wrote on Twitter. “I asked [for] my release. I’m free to entertain you however [wherever] I want.”
