Per the UFC, heavyweight Azunna Anyanwu has stepped up on late notice to face Justin Ledet. Last week, Dmitry Sosnovskiy dropped off of UFC Fight Night 116 creating the opening. The event takes place Sept. 16 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
Anyanwu recently earned a shot in the UFC with a victory over Greg Rebello on the first episode of Dana White’s Contender Series. The victory was the heavyweight’s fifth win in a row. Anyanwu has not lost since falling against Dan Spohn at Cage Fury Fighting Championship 53 in 2015. During his winning streak, he has scored three knockouts and two decisions.
Ledet made his UFC debut last year. In his first fight, he took home a decision win over Chase Sherman at UFC Fight Night 92. He returned at UFC Fight Night 99 and finished Mark Godbeer via first-round submission. Since then, he has been scheduled to face Sosnovskiy twice, but the bout fell through both times.
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 116, former UFC and Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold will return to action against former World Series of Fighting two-division champion Dave Branch.
