UFC bantamweight Augusto Mendes (6-2) will welcome promotional newcomer Boston Salmon (6-1) to the octagon for the first time when the two faceoff at UFC Fight Night 119 in October. Promotion officials recently announced the news.
UFC Fight Night 119 will take place Oct. 28 from Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A middleweight bout between Derek Brunson and Lyoto Machida is expected to headline the card.
Salmon earned his way into the UFC with an impressive showing on Dana White’s Contender Series 1 last month when he defeated Ricky Turcios via unanimous decision. “Boom Boom” had been competing under the Resurrection Fighting Alliance banner prior to that where he put together a 5-1 run.
The 26-year-old Hawaii native currently trains out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. Salmon has finished four of his six wins via knockout and two by decision.
Mendes is coming off a decision loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC on FOX 24 in April. Before that he was awarded his first “Fight of the Night” bonus for his split decision victory over Frankie Saenz at UFC Fight Night 103 in January.
The 34-year-old MMA Lab product is a former Legacy FC standout who was stopped in his octagon debut against Cody Garbrandt in February 2016. Now 1-2 inside the octagon, Mendes has finished four of his six career wins via submission and one by knockout.
